Pollinator Garden, 2023

The Groton Conservation Commission approved Goldring’s plan to create a large pollinator garden near the entrance to the farm under the direction of landscape architect Toby Wolf. The project restores a wetland area that has become significantly degraded from invasive species. Mr. Wolf was responsible for a design for a native pollinator garden, working with Mr. Corrigan on the restoration plan including identifying the invasive species, treatment plans, and planting vegetation that would increase the viability of the resource area. The garden features native plants arranged in a way that encourages a dynamic and healthy ecology for wildlife.

The following photos show the garden’s growth between May and July 2023.

Silo Solos, 2020 and 2021

In 2020 as a response to the Covid 19 pandemic lockdown, artists decided to create works in isolation in the two silos on the Goldring Piene farm in Groton, MA. Artists included Elizabeth Goldring and David Whiteside, Ellen Sebring, Seth Riskin, Beth Galston, Bill Seaman, Aldo Tambellini, Jessica Goldring-Spira, John Whiteside, …

The silos themselves became permanent works of art when Otto Piene transformed one into a projection site for his “Star of David” light ballet, and Paul Matisse transformed the other into a sound silo that resonated with his custom-designed sculptural bell and listening space. The Silo Solo artists interacted with the idiosyncratic silo spaces and their artworks.

“Silo Solos” were part of a global broadcast in the 2020 B3 Biennial, Frankfurt, Germany; and part of the film festival at the 2021 B3 Biennial.

Archive & Catalogue Raisonné of Otto Piene Works

A comprehensive, annotated listing of all the known works of Otto Piene is being compiled by Julia Schleicher in Berlin. The catalogue raisonné is undertaken by the Otto Piene estate under the direction of Sprüth Magers with initial sponsoring from More Sky.

The farm in Groton is home to Otto Piene works, in addition to works in storage.
